lyrics - Harbor of the Heart
* these songs include signing / hand-motion instructions.
When signing a song, you don't need to have a sign for every word; it's fine to sign only the key words. Make the motions flowing, dance-like, and as large as you like. Enjoy!
A Golden Day © 2001 Laszlo Slomovits ASCAP
It's a golden day,
It's a shining morn!
We're so lucky
That you were born!
We're so lucky
That you're here today!
It's a shining morn,
It's a golden day!
Every time and place can be lucky
Everyone is always blessed, it's true.
But of every time and place on this earth,
Having the chance to celebrate your birth,
We're most blessed to be here with you.
Whether it's rainy or sunny,
Whether it's cloudy or clear,
No matter what the weather,
It's so good to be together,
To sing how glad we are that you're here!

Let Your Heart Smile Laszlo Slomovits © 2001 SYDA Foundation
Smile, smile, smile.
Let your heart smile, smile, smile.
Let it pour light and love all around.
So, won't you smile, smile, smile,
Let your heart smile, smile, smile,
Let it pour light and love all around.
The trees smile with their fruit and shade,
The green grass with its every blade,
And the birds with their flight and their sweet song.
The mountains smile with their towering height,
The oceans with their boundless might,
And the streams and rivers smile flowing along.
So, won't you smile...
The smile of the sun is its golden gleam,
The smile of the moon blesses every dream,
May we shine here below as above.
The rainbow smiles with its magic arc,
The countless stars with their twinkling sparks,
And our heart with the pure light of our love.
Let your heart smile light and love all around.

I Believe Music & Lyrics ©2001 by Laszlo Slomovits
I believe, I believe in love.
I believe, I believe in love.
I believe, I believe in love.
I believe, I believe, I believe in love.
Feelings come and feelings go,
Nothing's here to stay.
What we think is so important
May be gone next day.
Since our soul will always live
It looks for what's eternal too.
Since our soul is always real
It only looks for what is true.
The goodness in your heart connects
To the goodness in my heart.
When two people meet with love
That's the highest place to start.
When we look with the heart's eye,
When we see each other with love,
Then we bring the highest heaven
Down to this sweet earth from above.

Dig Down Deep Music & Lyrics ©2001 by Laszlo Slomovits
You gotta dig down deep
To find the treasure inside.
You gotta dig down deep,
You know treasures like to hide.
You gotta dig down deep
Don't stop until you've really tried
You gotta dig down, dig down, dig down deep inside.
You know what they say about the cover of a book
You can't tell what's inside by the outside look.
If you don't see the magic in your life every day
Then you're not seeing yourself in a true way.
There are so many layers of rock and dirt
From every time that you got hurt,
Every single time that you took it to heart
When someone tried to take you apart.
Don't throw dirt on your neighbor's plot
She and he have their own treasure lot
They're digging away as well as they can
Perhaps, from time to time, with love, you can lend a hand
So get your pickaxe, shovel and spade,
It's for this your heart and soul and mind were made.
Listen to the messages that come from within,
Your heart will show you where you're going and where you've been.
Ask yourself "Where am I going?"
Ask yourself "What do I really want?"
Again and again listen for the answers
And don't give up, don't give up the treasure hunt.

Give the Best © 2001 Laszlo Slomovits ASCAP
Give the best that you have,
It's never too late to start.
Give the very, very best -
Share the love in your heart.
Whatever you give in this world,
That's exactly what you get.
However you are with the people you meet,
That's exactly how you'll be met.
There's no need to compare your gift,
We all give what we can.
How we give what we've been given
Is all that counts in the end.
If you give yourself what you need
You'll be able to give to the Earth.
If you offer the treasure in your heart,
You'll fulfill the purpose of your birth.

Give Yourself Music & Lyrics ©2001 by Laszlo Slomovits
Give yourself (Oh, Yeah!)
A little bit of love. (Uh huh!)
Give yourself (Oh, Yeah!)
A little bit of love. (Uh huh!)
Every day (Oh, Yeah!)
A little bit of love. (Uh huh!)
Wo-oh, to carry you through your life.
Some respect...
Some time alone...
A little bit of fun...

One Or Two © 2001 Laszlo Slomovits ASCAP
(This song started up one morning this spring while we were on
the road. It had rained the night before, and as I went out of
our hotel to go for a walk, I saw some earthworms wriggling on
the concrete of the parking lot. I picked up a few of them and
put them back in the grass, but when I looked around and saw hundreds
of them in just this parking lot alone I got a bit discouraged.
As I went for my walk, these words started coming up. By the end
of the walk I felt much better!)
You can't rescue every earthworm
wriggling in the parking lot. (Not by yourself! No way! It's true!)
But if everyone rescued one or two,
the Earth would be better for me and you,
and for our children too.
You can't pick up every bottle or can littered along the roads.
You can't feed every hungry person
You can't visit everyone who's sick
You can't cheer up every child who's sad
Even in your neighborhood
Just one or two, maybe a few
You'll see in a while that it's true
It's amazing what one or two people can do
Imagine what all of us together could do!
You can't help every needy person
even in your neighborhood
You can't support every worthy cause
even in your city or state
You can't solve every single problem
in the whole wide world
But if everyone helped with one or two...
You can't save every endangered species
You can't protect every tree
You can't clean up every river and stream
All around the world
You can't encourage every child
to be true to their heart
to listen to their soul
to live the life of their dreams
But if everyone encouraged one or two,
The Earth would be better for me and you,
and for our children's children too,
If we do just one or two,
Yup, that's right... one or two

A Little Step Every Day © 2001 Laszlo Slomovits
Just take a little step,
But a little step every day.
Yes, keep your eyes on the goal,
Don't turn your heart and mind away.
Sometimes you may get discouraged,
It may seem so far away,
But take a little step, anyway,
Take a little step every day.
When the path you're on gets hard to follow,
When truths in life become hard to believe.
Ask yourself, "What do I want to give to this world?
And what do I hope to receive?"
Listen to the answers and follow their lead
Taking one step at a time is all you need.
Nothing great was ever
accomplished overnight,
They say that Rome was not built in a day.
When the task is great, you can always break it down into steps,
And take a little step, but take that step today!
The first step is the hardest, that seems to be true,
And while the next one may be just as hard for you...
Sometimes it may seem that
you've just gone around in circles,
So many times you've been this way before.
But what if you're spiraling higher and higher,
Closer and closer to your core...
The next moment may open like a door...
Step on through, into the new,
And live the life that's meant for you.

A Little Song of Peace Music & Lyrics ©2001 by Laszlo Slomovits
Sing a little song of peace
Sing a little song with me
Sing a little song of peace
All together now, all together now
All of us together now
All of us together now
Sing a little song of peace.
Peace up in the sky, oh yes!
Peace down on the ground, oh yes!
Peace in every heart, oh yes!
Peace all around, peace all around
In the North and South,
The East and West
Peace in every heart is best.
Do a little work for peace...
Dance a little dance of peace...
Be a little light for peace...
|
Sing a little song - Extend the left hand; pointing the fingertips of the right hand towards the left palm, wave the right arm back and forth.
Peace - Clasp hands together in front of your chest in a handshake.
Me - Point to yourself.
All together now - Sweep your right hand in a big arc in front of you, from left to right.
All together now (second time)- Sweep your left hand in a big arc in front of you, from right to left.
All of us together now - Use both hands to make a sweeping motion from your center line out to both sides.
Peace up in the sky - Slowly extend your clasped hands up overhead.
Oh, Yes - Clap the rhythm of the words, above your head.
Peace down on the ground - Slowly reach your clasped hands down towards the ground.
Oh, Yes - Clap the rhythm of the words, with your hands down low.
Peace in every heart - Slowly bring your clasped hands up to your heart.
Oh, Yes - Clap the rhythm of the words, with your hands in front of your heart.
Peace all around, peace all around - Same as on "All together now".
In the North and South - Point forward with your right arm and backward with your left arm.
In the East and West - Point to the right with your right arm and to the left with your left arm.
Peace in every heart - Clasp your hands in front of you, then with the index fingers of both hands, make the shape of a heart on your chest.
Is best - Make the "thumbs up" gesture with both hands moving up and out.
Do a little work - Make fists with both hands, cross hands at the wrist, right above left, and move right hand up and down, touching the left wrist several times.
Dance a little dance - Hold out your open left hand, palm upward. Make a "V" with the first two fingers of your right hand, and with the "V" pointing
down, swing the right hand back and forth over the open left palm.
Be a little light - Wave the index finger of the right hand back and forth up by your head in a "windshield wiper" motion.

The Harbor of Your Heart © 2001 Laszlo Slomovits ASCAP
(Imagine a rockin' blues-spiritual melody of the kind that is the trademark of the wonderful women's acapella singing group, "Sweet Honey in the Rock.")
If your boat is battered in a storm
If your boat is battered, and your sails are tattered,
Oh, then let down your anchor
in the harbor of your heart
Oh, that's where you'll be safe at home.
But how do I find this harbor?
Follow the light from the beacon of your heart
Follow the light, in that dark and fearsome night,
Oh, and let down your anchor
in the harbor of your heart
Oh, that's where you'll be safe at home.
But how do I know I'll be safe there?
Tie your boat to a dock that will not shake
Tie your boat to a dock that will not shake or break,
Oh, and let down your anchor
in the harbor of your heart
Oh, that's where you'll be safe at home.
If your boat is battered in a storm
If your boat is battered, and your sails are tattered,
and your oars are scattered, and your faith is shattered,
if your whole life feels like none of it mattered,
Oh, then let down your anchor
in the harbor of your heart
Oh, that's where you'll be safe at home.

May We Work © 2001 Laszlo Slomovits ASCAP
This can be sung over and again, like a chant.
In each phrase, use the sign for the word "with" after the key word, and then repeat the key word. For example, in the phrase, "May we work for peace peacefully" sign as follows: "work", "for", "peace", "with", "peace".
May we work for peace peacefully,
May we work for truth truthfully,
May we work for justice justly,
May we work for hope with hope.
May we work for faith faithfully,
May we work for courage courageously,
May we work for kindness kindly,
May we work for love with love.
|
Work - Make fists with both hands, cross hands at the wrist, right above left, and move right hand up and down, touching the top of the left wrist several times.
For - Touch the fingertip of the right index finger to your forehead, then do a small "check" gesture, moving hand out, ending with the fingertip pointing up, palm out.
Peace - Clasp hands together in front of your chest in a handshake.
With - Make fists with both hands in front of your chest, then touch them together in a clapping motion.
Truth - Touch the index finger of your right hand to your lips, then bring it forward and down in an arc.
Justice - Bring both hands up in front of your chest, all the fingers pointing towards one another, and touch the middle fingers to one another.
Hope - Bring your hands up on both sides of your head, fingers pointing in towards the temples, and make a "talking" motion with your thumb and fingers
several times.
Faith - Touch the index finger of your right hand to your forehead, and bring it forward and down in an arc, closing your hand into a fist as if you were grasping
a vertical pole in front of you. At the same time, bring your left hand up in the same grasping motion, so the two hands meet, right above left, as if you were grasping
a pole with both hands.
Courage - While keeping your elbows at your sides, touch both open hands to your shoulders. Then bring them down forcefully, closing hands into fists,
and stopping with your hands at waist level.
Kindness - Roll both open hands around each other in front of your chest.
Love - Make the motion of hugging yourself.
