Laz will present  a variety of new music on spiritual themes. This will be the premier performance of some of these works, which will be released on two separate CDs later this year. The first will focus on Laz's musical settings of the poetry of Hafiz, the 14th Century Persian mystic. The second will feature new song-settings of Rumi, the 13th Century Sufi poet, whose lyrics Laz first set to music in last year's acclaimed CD "Give Light." Rumi and Hafiz, in translations by Coleman Barks and Daniel Ladinsky (whose versions Laz set to music) have been the best selling-poets in America for nearly two decades now. The concert will also feature some of Laz's musical settings of the poetry of Emily Dickinson—both some of the famous, well-known poems, and a number of lovely, relatively unknown ones.

For this special concert Laz will be joined by his wife, Helen, on flute and Celtic Harp, Lori Fithian (of "Drummunity") on percussion, and her brother Eric Fithian on guitar and bass. So tthe band should really be called Laz and Friends and Family! The four friends (and family) have played music together in various combinations of duos and trios for a number of years, but this is the band's first concert as a quartet.

Admission by donation. Free, convenient parking, smoke-free, alcohol-free, refreshments available. The Center is located at 704 Airport Blvd., Ann Arbor MI 48108, just south of I-94 off State Street. But click here for directions because Mapquest doesn't know how to find it yet!
